Around “300 years ago,”
Ajatana and Odofin, motivated by discontent, left the Old Oyo Kingdom and, guided by divine providence, settled in a fertile land of hills, rivers, and swamps. The town's name, Ere-Ijesa, came from travelers referring to the rise above the swamp as "Oke Ere N’beuN Ni mo gba wa" ("I got here through the rise from the swamp"). Over time, the name shortened to Ere-Ijesa. Today, the town has about 3,000 residents in over 300 houses, located 5 kilometers from Ijebu-Ijesa in Osun State.
